MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the International Community School is to provide the highest quality
education to our students. Using our philosophy, and in partnership with parents, we
strive to prepare each student for a productive and meaningful life in a rapidly changing
and highly competitive world.
WHAT IS ICS?
The International Community School (ICS) is a private, independent, co-educational day
school comprised of international and community students in both the upper elementary
and middle schools. ICS provides the educational foundation students need to excel in
high school and beyond.
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
ICS has a rigorous educational program with high academic and achievement standards.
Our tailored learning approach, coupled with real-world application of that learning,
builds problem-solving and thinking skills that will serve the students throughout their
lives. We give our students opportunities to practice their problem solving skills on real
issues. This authentic learning affords our students the unique opportunity to better
understand the issues, the solutions, and their impact on the world’s cultures and societ-
ies.
CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING
ICS is dedicated to the advancement of cultural understanding in order to build positive
personal and professional relationships. By having a variety of cultures represented in
our enrollment, and by exploring cultures on an intellectual basis, we give the students at
ICS a personal insight into the differences and similarities of today’s cultures. This better
prepares them for the life in the 21st century.

BODY AND MIND
ICS provides frequent opportunities to be outdoors
using our environment as an educational tool. Field
trips are integrated into our curriculum to maximize
learning. In addition, our students have ample oppor-
tunity to participate in a variety of physical activities,
keeping the body sound and the mind clear and sharp.
INSTRUCTIONAL PHILOSOPHY
ICS is a great way to be ready for the rigors of a
challenging high school. We assess each student
individually and then help them master the funda-
mentals of each subject and area before moving on to
the next concept. We train our students to be thinkers and learners equipped with the knowledge, skills, strate-
gies, and confidence to be successful. Successful stu-
dents are confident learners with the attitude necessary to
confront new areas of discovery. With the learning
attributes acquired at ICS our students will be better able
to meet the challenges that await them in our diverse
world.
AVERAGE TEST SCORES
ICS uses the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and
Skill, OAKS, standardized test with 98% of our
students, including our international students, meet-
ing or exceeding these state standards in all curricular
areas.
